The divine call: Christians role in politics

There has been ongoing debate about whether Christians should be involved in politics. While some argue that politics is a corrupt arena, there are few who support the idea of Christians engaging in politics.

In this article, I will not debate whether Christians should participate in politics. Let us first consider what the Bible says. Proverbs 29:2 states, "When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice."

This scripture highlights that God desires the righteous to be in positions of power. When good individuals hold leadership roles, they can implement policies that bring about positive change and contribute to the well-being of society.

Reflecting on the story of Mordecai and Esther, we see how God intervened through Esther's involvement in politics to save the Jewish people from destruction. This serves as a reminder that Christians should not shy away from participating in politics, as it is through engagement that positive change can be achieved.

As Christians, we are called to be the salt and light of the world, according to Matthew 5:13-16. Just as salt adds value and light dispels darkness, we are tasked with protecting social values and norms while bringing illumination to dark situations.

It is crucial for Christians to be actively involved in politics, as our faith calls us to uphold justice and compassion in governance. By participating in politics, we can work towards righteous governance that uplifts a nation.

"Even as Daniel served as a prime minister under Nabukadnesar, he received immense honor and respect. This exemplifies that politics is not inherently corrupt; rather, it is the unscrupulous individuals themselves who are to blame. Furthermore, the responsibility also falls upon the electorate who vote for such individuals, as they are equally complicit in the outcome."

Should we label politics as corrupt without showing any interest in it, we display irresponsibility towards our citizens, authorities, and, in essence, disrespect the constitution of our nation.

Politics is addressed directly and indirectly in several parts of Bible. 1 Peter 2:13-14 say that all should follow the authority of government, as government authority is instituted by the authority of God.

Let us all rise up as believers and engage in politics, whether through running for office, encouraging others to enter politics, or simply fulfilling our civic duty by voting. By taking action, we can shape the future and contribute to a society guided by righteousness and justice.
