Yuva Parivartan’s   Model Farm and Training center is located at Sonale village, Wada, district Palghar, the place where I enjoyed a cheerful stay, as it is on the forest headway and scenic lush green mountains make your tour enjoyable specially, in monsoon and winter.  Meandering Vaitarna river encircle   valleys, and surrounding villages, finally ends into Arabian seas of Mumbai Island.

It was a memorable stay, I ever remember.   There is many income generating projects such as poultry, goat farming, Goshala.   The Projects aims to empower marginalized farmers, women’s groups helping livelihood through innovative intervention of long and short-term agriculture base projects. Farmers are also given technical knowledge to improve their crops yield.

Many farmers who trained by model farm is doing well in agriculture. They are growing mogra, green vegetables and the farms blooming agro business in nearby villages of Wada.

Ananta Patil, the farmer from Shilotar village is growing mogra and he earns twenty thousand each month. ‘’During festive season, I earned fifty thousand rupees from mogra farming,’’ he said proudly

“In a recent month, I sold green vegetables for 40000/- Rupees.’’  Vishnu Raikar said, in a Raikar pada, an adiwasi hamlet, village Sonale. The farmers were unaware about soil testing and its benefits. Soil testing revealed  soil deficits and water irrigation gave these farmers a new lease of life, and  restored the land’s fertility. Now they are doing organic farming and their vegetable is sold in a local market.

The movement toward local food is creating a vibrant new economic laboratory for agriculture. The result, with its growing army of small-scale local farmers, is as much about producing family income as reworking on models about how food gets sold and farmers get financed. There is a one-guntha projects designed especially for small landholders; family consumption.  Five guntha projects aim for family consumption and sale the farm produce like vegetables and fruits.

Fisheries, honeybees, rabbits rearing, water bund, rainwater harvesting, drip irrigation, waste water management, soil testing are other programs.  Soil, land preparation is regular management practices carried out at model farm.  More than 20 varieties of medicinal and spice plants are housed at model farm to teach its uses and benefits

The cow dung, poultry and goat droppings used as   vermi manure for farmland.   The farmers are encouraged to use the vermi manure in their farms.  The grains, crops and other vegetables are grown organically at model farm.

It is a safe and free from chemicals and also keeps the land fertile which helps farmers curtail their expenses and protects environment. Organic farming builds healthy soil, it helps combat erosion of soil, organic farming fights the effects of Global Warming.

The ultimate goal is to create healthy and environmental friendly agro practices for long-term effects in agriculture business.  This will enrich farmer’s socio-economic status.

According to research conducted by the Office of Evaluation and Studies (OE), at the International Fund for Agriculture Development (IFAD), small farmers in Latin America, China, and India can benefit dramatically from organic farming and will help in reducing poverty in these countries.

Agriculture provides employment to 48.9 percent of the total workforce in India. Agro-base projects should be encouraged to create livelihood

Schools are visiting the model farm for learning agro base projects which is helpful to school children for writing their extracurricular activities and projects. The corporate employees volunteering for agro base social activities like tree plantation.

In response to Swach Bharat mission Yuva Parivartan is constructing low cost toilets.  As a corporate responsibility, employees are also volunteering to paint the village toilets from home and abroad.

After all, the entire place is must visit not only to see the projects of the model farm but also contribute to uplift the life of poor village farmers, women and youth to support them  towards  a  sustaining livelihood.
